At Kotare Subtropicals we are passionate about growing subtropical fruit trees in Northland and other milder parts of New Zealand. We are based in Maungatapere, 14 km from Whangarei, and have a nursery focusing on a number of banana varieties as well as pineapples, papaya, cherimoya, cassimoroa, sugar cane, and other subtropical plants.

Since January 2021 we have been growing bananas, papaya, and pineapples indoors in our 600m2 unheated greenhouse. Outdoor we grow feijoas, figs and bananas for the local market.

We are excited by the potential for a commercial subtropicals industry in New Zealand with a focus on bananas, pineapples, and a range of emerging subtropical species. We also provide consulting services to those who are interested in commercial subtropical plantings.

We are members of the New Zealand Tree Crops Association.
