Slow-growing evergreen tree from the Myrtle family grows up to 15m. Cold tolerant to around -5C when established, but best in a frost-free sheltered site. The purplish-black, white-pulped fruit arise directly on the tree trunk. Usually eaten raw or to make jellies, jams, juice or wine.
