Rollinia is in the custard-apple family, Annonaceae, and native to tropical South America where it is  cultivated for its edible fruits. It is commonly known as the lemon meringue pie fruit, or wild sugar-apple. The fruit has a sweet-tart flavour with nuances of pineapple, banana, coconut, and other tropical flavours. It fruits in the spring through until early summer. In NZ we suggest protection for juvenile plants by growing indoors until approximately 3 years old before planting in a warm and protected frost free position.
