The soursop, originally from the West Indies and Central America, is a flowering evergreen tree now grown throughout the tropics. In New Zealand it is recommended for indoor cultivation in covered structures. The fruit are green, often weigh 2 - 4 kg and covered in tiny soft short spines. The flesh is not sour, but juicy and tangy. The texture is fibrous like that of cotton wool and can be eaten fresh or sieved to make a drink or puree to make a cream. Botanical name: Annona muricata
